January Canvas Sale | Get ’em while there hot

January 22, 2010 Leave a comment

Gallery wraps are our absolute favorite way to display an  image,  They look amazing and are never out of style.  Plus, they are always ready to hang!   When clients come into the studio, a canvas gallery wrap is the most frequent ordered item.   They are wrapped around a 1.5″ wooden stretcher frame and make an amazing gift for someone (or yourself).

You can take 25% off any 2009 session  – applies only to sessions that have been completed. Sale ends January 30th, 2010.

To take advantage of this, please contact me with the session you’d like to purchase from, and I’ll re-instate your online gallery to order from. My vendors only have these sales a few times each year and I am passing the savings directly to you.

Rockin 2010, Let’s Get This Party Started..

January 2, 2010 1 comment

2010, what an amazing thing to hear.

It’s a New Year, and the opportunity to start something fresh. In the photography business, this is a slower time of year before the non-stop rush when it starts to warm up.  Perfect time to plant the seeds for new session types, new product offerings and better things for my clients and family.

Rather than having a new years resolution, I figured a list of goals to achieve was a better idea for me.  I have always been a goal setter and for a time I got away from doing something I know works.

1. Find a intern to help with workflow and graphic design.  This will free me up to shoot more and spend more time with my clients and family doing fun stuff.

2.  Set normal work hours and develop a manageable work-flow.  I need to plan my time and not have my time plan me.

3.  Move into a house that has a designated studio area. I love, love, love lifestyle portraiture but when it’s 27 degree’s outside who wants to shoots beach portraits?

4. Buy some real studio lights vs. Nikon flashes.  Using Nikon SB800’s work most of the time real well and are small and portable.  Sometimes big softboxes, strip lights and modeling lamps just work better.

5. Take a real road trip with the family, see the USA.  I have a class reunion in August in Oregon and I am hoping to drive there.  My son Sid has never driven cross country, we have always flown.  He will be 17 and this is the year.

6.  Have coffee with a new friend once a week.

7.  Meet 5 new amazing clients each week.

8.  Create a newsletter that has been on my mind for awhile.  Offer specials and discounts that give people enough time to take advantage of them.  This is going to be a challenge but It’s important.

9.  Have 10 displays/exhibits going all the time around Hampton Roads.  My canvas vendors are going to love me this year.

10. A complete makeover of  my website and blog.  Bigger splashier more colorful images, same fresh, modern and fun style.

11. Bigger commitment to local charities for auctions and event coverage.  You get what you give.

12.  Make sure my wife Michele and my children know they are the most important thing to me.

Posts without photograph’s are just boring so here is one of my fav’s of last year.

Casting Call for Newborns, Tweens & Pets

July 27, 2009 2 comments

Once in a while, I like to expand my creativity and try some new things, and figured before senior season heats up it would be a perfect time to shoot some fun images! So, I’m offering a casting call to models/parents who are open to trying some of my ideas and comfortable with being featured on my web site. Casting Call sessions are done free of charge in exchange for a signed model release.

Each model/parent will receive a complimentary 8×10 print. You are not obligated to purchase any other prints, but if you like, they will be available for purchase at regular print rates.  I only have a few spots available for each session so first come first served. All sessions must be within 20 miles of Olde Towne Portsmouth or a travel charge will apply.

I am looking for newborn models up to three weeks old. Some of the shots may feature your little one in his or her birthday suit but be assured they will all be in good taste just as the other images on my website. These sessions will be done in your home so if you have a “beautiful nursery” that would be a plus. Newborns can take some extra time so allow for 1-3 hours for the session.

I am looking for children ages 8-12 with personality and spunk. Looking to do both urban and natural shoots. Will last 1-2 hours, probably outdoors.

I love animals and am interested in expanding my portfolio with images of animals of all kinds, with or without their owners – birds, dogs, cats, iguanas… you name it. These sessions will likely take place in your home or backyard or at a dog park and will probably not last for longer than an hour.

Memorial Day Parade – Portsmouth Virginia

I have always enjoyed parades since I was young and in Scouts and a participant in many.  This year we met with our friends the Lamb’s.   Unfortunately a couple of bikes got tangled up during the parade too and a lady rider crashed and was taken to the  hospital.  Hope she is alright.  Great weather, good friends and a parade honoring our fallen heroes.  Overall a great day.

Sandy “Sam” Puc – Tots Teens Tour 09

Michele and I went to Richmond Monday and saw Sandy Puc on her Tot’s 2 Teen’s Tour and all I can say is WOW.  She is a very dynamic speaker and one of the best childrens photographers in the country.

It started at 4PM and we didn’t leave until almost 11PM.  She completely covers her style working with children in detail and how she presents the images to her clients.  She really is open with her heart too in regards to giving back to her community and giving to worthy causes.  She is a co-founder of  Now I Lay me Down to Sleep organization.

Over the next several weeks we will be updating our blog with new portrait options for your little ones that we picked up from Sam, be sure to sign up for our RSS feed to keep updated.

Childrens Portraits – Hampton Roads

Here are some images from a few different childrens sessions or events that I photographed lately.  Kids are so much fun to work with as long as I take my energy drinks before the session.  Pure joy to watch them play and have a good time.

Model Portfolios – Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads

June 18, 2008 Leave a comment

Whew.. I have been real busy lately shooting model portfolios.  I received a call from Iraq few weeks back and it was a local mother and Army officer whose children have done some modeling for JC Penney’s and Ralph Lauren.  She needed some updated location images for her children’s agency and comp cards.  Her backyard has a huge jungle jim and was a perfect location because the children felt comfortable and relaxed.  I have to many good ones to post here but these are some of the ones that stood out to me.

Christine in Iraq be safe and come home soon, your children miss you terribly.
