11 Awesome Wedding Blogs To Check Out..

February 9, 2010 Leave a comment

I get a lot of photographic inspiration from several online wedding blogs that really show a diversity of what other photographers and wedding vendors are putting together for their brides.  Some of it is really breathtaking and amazing.  I wanted to pass these along for my brides who want some great wedding tips and those who are looking for inspiration for their special day.  Most of the sites have a links section so I am warning you, prepare to be amazed and exhausted.  These are in no particular order just the ones I visit often.

Rockin 2010, Let’s Get This Party Started..

January 2, 2010 1 comment

2010, what an amazing thing to hear.

It’s a New Year, and the opportunity to start something fresh. In the photography business, this is a slower time of year before the non-stop rush when it starts to warm up.  Perfect time to plant the seeds for new session types, new product offerings and better things for my clients and family.

Rather than having a new years resolution, I figured a list of goals to achieve was a better idea for me.  I have always been a goal setter and for a time I got away from doing something I know works.

1. Find a intern to help with workflow and graphic design.  This will free me up to shoot more and spend more time with my clients and family doing fun stuff.

2.  Set normal work hours and develop a manageable work-flow.  I need to plan my time and not have my time plan me.

3.  Move into a house that has a designated studio area. I love, love, love lifestyle portraiture but when it’s 27 degree’s outside who wants to shoots beach portraits?

4. Buy some real studio lights vs. Nikon flashes.  Using Nikon SB800’s work most of the time real well and are small and portable.  Sometimes big softboxes, strip lights and modeling lamps just work better.

5. Take a real road trip with the family, see the USA.  I have a class reunion in August in Oregon and I am hoping to drive there.  My son Sid has never driven cross country, we have always flown.  He will be 17 and this is the year.

6.  Have coffee with a new friend once a week.

7.  Meet 5 new amazing clients each week.

8.  Create a newsletter that has been on my mind for awhile.  Offer specials and discounts that give people enough time to take advantage of them.  This is going to be a challenge but It’s important.

9.  Have 10 displays/exhibits going all the time around Hampton Roads.  My canvas vendors are going to love me this year.

10. A complete makeover of  my website and blog.  Bigger splashier more colorful images, same fresh, modern and fun style.

11. Bigger commitment to local charities for auctions and event coverage.  You get what you give.

12.  Make sure my wife Michele and my children know they are the most important thing to me.

Posts without photograph’s are just boring so here is one of my fav’s of last year.

Virginia Beach Engagement Photography | Danielle and Damon

October 7, 2009 4 comments

Michele and I met with Danielle and Damon last month at Town Center www.vabeachtowncenter.com to take their engagement photo’s.  Danielle had seen our work and wanted some fashion/couture  inspired  images for their session.  I love it when a couple show a  real interest in having fun and exciting images taken.  During the session they wanted to relax a little bit, so we took a small break and had some wine at www.sonomatowncenter.com.

The wedding is planned for next May and they selected the www.princessannecc.com for the wedding and reception. The PACC  is a beautiful venue for weddings, add a stunning bride and groom so you know  the images are gonna ROCK.

Here is a link to view a video I created from the session:  http://www.vimeo.com/6756615.

Tammy and Adrian Wedding – Virginia Beach Convention Center

September 22, 2009 3 comments

Michele and I had the pleasure of photographing the destination wedding of Tammy and Adrian last month at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.  These two are just made for each other and it warms my heart every time I think about their beautiful day.  Both of them are just stunning and the Convention Center really put together a beautiful reception. Tonya Frazier the owner of Graceful Designs provided the beautiful flowers and table pieces.

Virginia Beach Model Portfolios – The Junkyard Shoot

July 5, 2009 5 comments

Last Saturday myself and several photographers from a local club did a group photo shoot with some local models.  I typically do not like these group shoots because you just don’t have the time to get to know the model.  Trust and having your subject relax is imperative for good pictures.    I have been on a black and white kick recently and I am pretty happy with some of the images from the session though.  The girls were wonderful to work with and hopefully got a lot of  diversity from each photographer to add to their portfolios.

If your an up and coming model or actor who wants to build a portfolio and you like what you see call me for $100 off either of our comp card sessions.  Each session is 1.5 to 2 hours on location of your choice with unlimited clothing changes.  This offer is good through August 5th 2009.

Olde Towne Portsmouth VA – Couples Session

June 16, 2009 Leave a comment

We booked a session as a Christmas gift when the weather warmed up for Bobby & Dinah.  He liked our work but with months of cold, then rain and crazy busy schedules it took until April to finally have the shoot.

I call these session’s “Photo Safari’s” where we just look for cool spots, walk around and take pictures.  Olde Towne is wonderful photographically with many beautiful churches with some dating back to 1762, the waterfront area and various stages of on-going revitalization.  Here is a link for the area:  http://www.oldetowneportsmouth.com/

Brooke 2.0 – Bridal Session Virginia Beach

May 12, 2009 3 comments

I had to finally breakdown and buy a new computer last month, while moving some images over I decided to revisit a few previous sessions we’ve had with a new twist.  We will call these 2.0 and the first set is with Brooke.   If you haven’t figured out what I like to photograph best it is children, people in love and brides with a fun spirit and open mind.

Brooke was an absolute treat to work with.  She was open to let me play around and that usually = a fun session with the potential for great images.  A little over a year later Brooke has a baby on the way too.  Congrats to Gabe and Brooke, hope you like these images and bless your new addition.
