Charity Events – Hampton Roads, Virginia

December 5, 2009 1 comment

Michele, Sid  and I are participating in three amazing charity events this Christmas season that we hope will bless many families and loved ones.  I want to mention all three and encourage you to give to any or all that touch your heart.  They are in no particular order because each really stand alone and each deserve special recognition.

Snowball Express is the charity for the children of our fallen military heroes. They started in 2006 with a simple idea: Provide hope and new memories to the children of our fallen military heroes who died while on active duty since September 11, 2001.

We will be sending off the families from Norfolk International Airport 12/09/09 to Dallas Texas this year for a 4 day VIP event that will hopefully uplift the hearts of these little ones with the loss of their mothers or fathers who have died in war.  I can tell ya I am tearing up writing this post, we are so honored to have a small part in this charity.  Please visit the website and give if you can:

Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this holiday season.  There are currently over 631 locations worldwide offering free photography to families and individuals.  Locally there are two sites offering photography services this coming Saturday 12/12/09 at the YMCA on Colley Avenue in Norfolk and at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church at 472 N. Battlefield at Kempsville and Great Bridge Blvd.

I believe the times are 10-4.  I will be helping out at the Chesapeake location.  Here is the link to the website that explains the charity with some really good videos to watch:

Wreaths Across America, WAA reached out to thousands of children with the message of Remember, Honor and Teach.  The importance of honoring each fallen serviceman as an individual is stressed.  My fellow brother and sisters with the Patriot Guard Riders and the help of hundreds of  Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Veterans and local citizens will be laying wreaths at the Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk also this coming Saturday 12/12/2009.  Michele and Sid will be out there at noon helping.  Here is a link to this charity, please sponsor a wreath at the website:

More and more we’re connecting through social media, so why not look your best to all your old and new online friends?  Get some friends together and join the fun at Studio 757 for our weekly Facebook Fête.  Every Thursday, we host a Facebook Fête.  Come and enjoy a welcome break from your hectic week. We’ll treat you to a cold beverage and a tasty treat while you take a moment to relax and be pampered.

For only $25, you’ll get an image you’d be proud to share on the World Wide Web. Bring a friend or two and you’ll each get an image for $12.50. The portrait session will last 10 minutes, and you’ll have a choice of backgrounds to create a casual, personality-driven image.

A few days after your portrait’s taken, the image will be uploaded to our Facebook site, and we’ll email you a link so you can tag yourself and drag the image to your desktop to use on your social networking or e-dating sites.  We are also looking for other businesses, clubs or organizations to host our weekly parties too.  Call us to RSVP today, (757) 560-2997.

I recently joined “Patriot Guard Riders” and I went on my first mission for Master Sergeant Thomas Lewellen this past week. I knew it was going to affect me and it did. It is my honor to participate with other men and woman to show our respect for fallen Soldiers, Sailors and Marines.   Michele and I are working on a fundraiser for the organization and will be posting details later this month.

Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement

The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.

We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives:

1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protester or group of protesters.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.
